Operation Hotspot

The Mayor of Boston requested that the faith-based community help with the challenges posed by the city’s Hotspots:

  • Franklin Field/Franklin Hill Area
  • Grove Hall Area
  • Harold Park Area (a.k.a H-Block)
  • Mattapan
  • Mission Hill
  • Norfolk Street/ Morton Street Area
  • Orchard Garden Area
  • Warren Garden/Copeland Street Area

The Boston TenPoint Coalition will help in coordinating services to respond proactively to the threat of increasing violence these communities face. Outreach efforts will include:

  • neighborhood walks by pastors, ministers, and lay leaders,
  • cook outs sponsored by local churches,
  • home front visits by trained church volunteers,
  • crisis intervention services provided by trained clergy as part of a Crisis Response Team, and
  • adopting tenant organizations  and community-based organizations.

In 2004, we had 25 volunteers from six churches (Greater Love Tabernacle Church of God, Bethel AME, Charles Street AME, Roxbury Presbyterian Church, Jubilee Christian Church International, Kingdom Builders’ Worship Center) touch the lives of more than 500 young people in five neighborhoods.
